 Rawalpindi: With the increase in the severity of cold, the prices of dried fruits have been increased arbitrarily.

Prices of dried fruits have gone up to Rs 9,000 per kg. Prices of pistachios, almonds, walnuts, dried apricots, dates, cashews, peanuts and dried figs have also started skyrocketing. The exorbitant increase is causing great distress to the citizens.

As in other parts of the country, the demand for dried fruits has increased during the severe cold wave in the twin cities.

According to market data, chickpeas have reached Rs. 9,000 per kg, raw chickpeas are being sold at Rs. 5,000 per kg, high quality pistachios at Rs. 2,000 and medium quality pistachios at Rs. 1,600 per kg. The price of paper almonds has gone up from Rs 2,200 per kg to Rs 2,600 per kg, the price of paper almonds has gone up from Rs 750 per kg to Rs 1,000 per kg, paper walnuts have gone up from Rs 400 per kg to Rs 800 per kg.

The price of dried figs has been increased by Rs. 300 per kg, after which the price of figs has gone up to Rs. 650 per kg. The price of dried apricots has been increased from Rs. 400 per kg to Rs. 800 per kg. Rs. 50 has been added, peanuts which cost Rs. 50 per pound are being sold at Rs. 150 per pound.

There are dried fruit stalls in various places in the market but the buyers are upset when they hear about the prices of dried fruits and do not buy. Citizens have demanded the government to introduce a system for fixing the prices of dried fruits. Citizens should be able to use dried fruit to protect themselves from adverse effects.
