ISLAMABAD: Senior Supreme Court Judge Qazi Faiz Issa has expressed anger over non-holding of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and warned of contempt of court proceedings against the provincial government.
A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Qazi Faiz Issa, heard a case relating to implementation of sections 39 and 41 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Act 2013, which referred to the delay in local body elections in KPK. The Supreme Court issued notices to the Attorney General, Election Commission and Advocate General KPK.
Justice Qazi Faiz Issa remarked that if the constitution is not implemented, contempt of court action will be taken against the KP government. First world style of governance is being done in the countries of the world, why the lawyers of the provincial government are afraid and why are they trying to save the government, you rule with the money of the people, there is no need to be afraid of anyone, your safety God is the doer.
Justice Qazi Faiz Issa said that there are routes under VIP culture in all parts of the country. There are machine guns everywhere. Something happened. Will these guns be aimed at the people? They talk of holding elections in Kashmir but do not hold local body elections in the province. Don't the people have rights in the province, without holding local body elections? The rights of the people are being robbed, people everywhere are living a lavish lifestyle.
Angered over the non-appearance of Advocate General KP, the court said that whether Advocate General KP is a very busy man, he gets salary from public money, it is his responsibility to appear before the court.
The KP government submitted a report on sections 39 and 41, on which the court expressed dissatisfaction and ordered that details of movable and immovable property of the local government be uploaded. The case was adjourned till December 15.
