Nawaz Sharif's mother Begum Shamim Akhtar passed away

 London: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's mother Begum Shamim Akhtar has passed away in London.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's mother Begum Shamim Akhtar has died in London after a long illness. PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar has confirmed the death of Nawaz Sharif's mother. According to family sources, Shahbaz Sharif, who is lodged in Central Jail Kot Lakhpat, is being informed of the death of his mother.

It is to be noted that Nawaz Sharif's mother had left for London in February despite a serious illness. Doctors had forbidden her to travel long distances but she told her to go to her son. Begum Shamim Akhtar, the mother of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, was about 90 years old when her husband Mian Muhammad Sharif died in 2004 in Jeddah.

Nawaz Sharif's mother Begum Shamim Akhtar will be buried in the Sharif family's ancestral graveyard in Lahore. Her mother's body will be flown to Pakistan keeping in view the khaki flight schedule. The body of Nawaz Sharif's mother is expected to arrive in Pakistan from London in the next 24 hours.

PML-N sources said that Nawaz Sharif and his sons are not likely to arrive in Pakistan but their funeral arrangements will be made by Captain (retd) Safdar and others in Lahore. The PML-N's legal team is consulting for the release.

On the other hand, government sources said that the decision to release Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz on parole would be taken in accordance with the law. It is likely that Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz will be released.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in his tweet on the demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar said that my condolences and prayers are with the Sharif family on the demise of Mian Nawaz and Mian Shahbaz Sharif's mother. إِنَإا لِلهِ وَإِنَّـا لَِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

According to Pakistan Army Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and their families on the demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar. May God grant her a high position in His mercy. Amen

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also expressed his condolences to Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz and said, "I pray to Allah Almighty to grant her Paradise and patience to the mourners."

Former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Monis Elahi expressed their heartfelt condolences on the demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar. Minister for Colonies and Prisons Punjab Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan also expressed sorrow over the demise of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif's mother Shamim Akhtar.
